As reported in the New England Journal of Medicine June 23, 2016, 2.3 million adolescents with a mean age of 17 years were tracked for 33 years.

In those whose body mass index (BMI) was in the 50th to 74th percentile (fatter), compared to those in the 5th to 24th percentile (leaner), the increase in death from total cardiovascular disease was 3.5 times higher.

Broken down, the deaths from heart attack was 5 times higher, from stroke 2.6 times higher, and from sudden death twice as high.

Keep your kids lean!
